The geotextile membrane to be used beneath the riding surface in Horse Manege construction also needs to acts as a separator, but essentially must prevent small particles (e.g. silica sand) that form the riding surface, from being lost down into the aggregate layer below, and allow free drainage to avoid the arena becoming waterlogged.
For this purpose, Fibertex non-woven geotextiles membranes are suitable and are the most popular range of geotextiles used within equestrian arenas in the U.K.
F-22 grade is widely used for domestic arenas whilst heavier Fibertex grades such as F-35, F-300M and F-400M are preferred for commercial and competition arenas.
Fibertex™ is made from polypropylene staple fibres, Fibertex™ is resistant to all naturally occurring soil alkalis and acids and fungal attacks. As well as this Fibertex is UV stabilised and will not rot.
Fibertex also has high water flow and excellent filter properties combined with its exceptional mechanical properties, ensures that fine grained particles are retained at the same time as allowing the free movement of water. In this way stability is improved and the life of the construction is considerably prolonged.
